The Inner Village
A Sacred Retreat in the Nilgiri Hills of South India
15th – 20th February 2027
The Inner Village
Welcome to a six-day intimate retreat in a beautiful village in South India, created to help your nervous system slow down through nature, village living, grounding practices, meaningful reflection, and long spacious days.
WHAT THIS RETREAT IS
It feels so special to invite you into one of the most beautiful and meaningful places I know. Spending time here has always brought me back to a deep sense of connection with myself, with nature, and with a more grounded way of living.
This retreat is inspired by the wisdom of village life, and the way our nervous systems naturally regulate, and thrive in this rhythm.
The Inner Village is an invitation to step out of constant stimulation and into a slower, more intentional way of living. In the quiet rhythm of village life, we are reminded of something we often forget – how to return to ourselves, to each other, and to the inner village that lives within all of us.
You will experience:
- Optional gentle yoga and grounding movement
- Meditation and nervous system regulation practices
- Indian cooking workshops together with locals
- Sacred bonfire evenings
- Long, open afternoons for rest and integration
- Reflective workshops with journaling
- Quiet walks through tea estates
- Authentic Indian village life
This retreat is a sacred space for you to rest, reconnect, and remember what feels true for you. When we allow our bodies and minds to slow down, magical things begin to happen.
ACCOMMODATION & VILLAGE LIFE
Kinnakorai village is a beautiful rural and secluded village which lies high up in the Nilgiri mountains, and is surrounded by endless tea fields and lush green nature. It is a 3-4 hour drive from the closest airport and big city, Coimbatore. The long drive to the village is so spectacular with mountains, jungle and tea estates surrounding you.
Kinnakorai is the last village at the end of a long road high up in the mountains and lies just on the border between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Its very peaceful, quiet, and held by the Badaga tribe – a warm local tribe and culture.
You’ll be welcomed into colorful homes in Kinnakorai, where you will live with fellow participants from the retreat. Rooms are shared rooms with two people in each room. Rooms are private enough for personal reflection, journaling, and rest. There are common areas and the village surroundings are always available for additional solitude or walks.
A TYPICAL DAY
Mornings slowly begin when the sun rises, with optional movement and meditation, followed by a shared breakfast together.
Late mornings may hold one workshop or reflective practice.
Afternoons are intentionally spacious – time to rest, walk, journal, nap, or simply sit with a cup of chai and watch the hills.
Evenings are slow and grounding – shared meals, walks, restorative practices, or gathering around the fire. Two of the evenings there will be cooking classes for those interested.
There is always permission to choose rest.

What kind of accommodation can I expect?
You’ll stay in simple, clean and cozy village homes for five nights, with daily cleaning so you can fully relax. Rooms are shared with a fellow participant. Some of the rooms have two single beds, while others have a double bed.
What meals are provided?
Three fresh, nourishing vegetarian meals are served daily, made with love from local ingredients. Two of the evenings we will serve fresh chicken, which is optional. Water, tea, coffee, and seasonal fruits are available throughout the day.
How do I get to the village?
To make your journey easier, transport will be arranged between Coimbatore (the closest major city) and the village at the start and end of the retreat. Many flights connect with Coimbatore, usually from New Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai.
Is this retreat suitable for children or families?
This retreat is created for adults seeking a quiet, immersive experience. It’s ideal for solo travelers, friends or couples looking for a slower, reflective experience.
Is this retreat a therapy or medical program?
No. This is a supportive, restorative retreat – not a clinical or medical program. I do not provide medical advice or trauma therapy.
What if I have dietary restrictions?
Vegetarian meals are provided, and we will do our best to accommodate dietary needs with advance notice.
Do I need a visa to travel to India?
Yes, a visa is required for all travelers from Norway (and most other countries). The easiest option for a short visit is an e-Visa, which you can apply for online before your trip. Be sure to check the official Indian government website for up-to-date instructions, and give yourself plenty of time to apply.
Do I need any vaccinations when traveling to India?
As recommendations can vary depending on your health, travel history, and length of stay, I encourage you to contact a travel medicine clinic for personalized advice before your trip.
Can I combine this retreat with seeing more of India?
Yes! India has so much to offer, and you can easily combine your time in the village with exploring another region. From the temples of Tamil Nadu to Taj Mahal to the beautiful beaches of Goa, there’s plenty to see – but I recommend not trying to fit in too much at once. Allow yourself time to do some research, follow what feels good for you and explore at your own pace.
